Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct facial wrinkles and folds. As it is a natural substance found in the human body, there is virtually no risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction and therefore no pre-testing is required. The advantage it has over collagen injections it that it may last twice as long (six to nine months).

The most commonly reported side effects are temporary redness and swelling at injection sites, which typically resolves in two to three days. It is best to avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John's Wort, or high-dose vitamin supplements prior to treatment because these may increase bruising.
