Procedures - Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing with the CO2 or erbium lasers involves the removal of a layer of skin so that the new skin can flourish and fill in the wrinkles and crevices. The laser vaporizes the old wrinkled, sun damaged and scarred skin which initiates a cascade for new skin formation. The new skin is healthier with less visible lines, wrinkles, sun damage and scars.

Laser skin resurfacing with the CO2 laser remains the gold standard for reversing the signs of aging associated with wrinkled skin. The CO2 laser also causes dramatic tightening of the skin. For patient who do have severe wrinkles, and are not smokers or are able to stop smoking, this procedures remains the treatment of choice. A one pass laser resurfacing procedure has one week down time and multiple pass CO2 laser procedure has two weeks down time. Treatment of wrinkles with the CO2 laser is limited to the face.
